Week 20 - Melissa

Well, like Ashli, I didn't take too many pictures for week 20 either.  It wasn't that I didn't have time or that the subject matter was difficult, or even that I didn't have my camera - because I take a lot of photos with my phone.  This past week, part of last week, and this week coming ahead has been ALL RAIN!  The drought in Michigan is no longer a problem but getting out to take pictures in the rain... is.

That said, I was missing some photos and although I didn't take from the past, I took some this week because there was a slight pause in the rain and I might have even seen the sun peek through the cloud cover.  It is ironic, though, because Aisha says "Clouds are our friends."  These friends have overstayed their welcome.

We did have a little blue sky on Thursday morning.  You can see a little of the fall color on the trees but not much is left.

Week Twenty - Ashli

I have a confession to make.  I did not take one single picture with my camera this week.  In fact, it is still sitting here on my desk, plugged into the computer from last week, when I uploaded my photos.  So, what to do?  Skip this week?  I didn't want to do that since so many others are taking a break right now.  But it rained all day and my husband and kids were gone, so I couldn't really get out and take any today either.  I did take some photos with my phone.  So, I have decided to dig into the archives and also use what I took with my phone.  Sadly, I don't think any of them use the concepts that Aisha wanted us to try this week.  I promise to keep them in mind going forward. Please don't hate me.  P.S.  This is the only way I can get all seven photos!

Color:

This is a pretty pink plant I photographed at the zoo in Naples, Florida. 

Wild:

This is my "wild," cat Iris.  He (yes, I said he) is trying to tell me something in this pic, I just can't remember what it was. 

Snack time:

This is my friend's daughter at a birthday party.  Quinn saw this photo and told me that her ice cream is in the shape of a dog.  I think he's right.  Do you see it? 

Animals:

This is my other cat Stanley - he dreams of a career in photography. Add your own caption.

Happy:

This is an old favorite of Quinn from last fall.  I had just gotten my new camera and we had flipped the screen around so we could take self portraits.  He was enthralled. 

In the Car:

This was on the way home from our camping trip last weekend.  If you notice the bottom left corner, he fell asleep mid-graham cracker. 

This was the lovely weather on our way home from our date last night.  In fact, it's pretty much like that outside right now.

Creepy:

Once in a while, I let my kids pick out an exotic fruit they want to try.  A couple of weeks ago Caleb picked out this horned melon.  It tasted about as disgusting as it looks. Surprisingly he liked it and ended up eating quite a bit of the gelatinous goo.

Sorry this is not a very good photo - I had to be sneaky.  At the Curves I go to, they are having a book sale to raise money for breast cancer research.  This is on of the books they had for sale.  I laughed out loud!

The leaves have barely started to turn colors here, so this is a green leaf. What's with the stick man, you ask? Shane was trying to see what the proportion size would be for the characters in one of his books.

Well, well, well...I am a little bit behind in getting this out (a week is a little bit, right?). Anyway, very busy, very tired week, but here it is...even if it is late.

Monday September 24th

National Punctuation Day

This is a picture of brackets, very bent brackets, but brackets none the less. But what do we actually use them for in writing? Here is your punctuation lesson for the day: Brackets are used to enclose editorial comments within quoted material, to offer a translation, to offer the original foreign term, to nest parenthesis inside of parenthesis ( [ ] ), to offer phonetic transcriptions and to show indentation change when proofreading or editing.

Love Note Day

This is a photo of the front of an anniversary card from my husband. The inside says...and drive each other crazy for the rest of our lives. I thought it was so cute. There's a hand written love note inside as well, but that's for me.


Thursday September 27th

Crush a Can Day

This is a #10 can with both ends removed and crushed. I turned the picture on it's side because I liked how the can and it's reflection on the counter-top made it look like a butterfly.


Friday September 28th

Native American Day

There is a lot of native heritage in this area. The town I live in is right next to the Umatilla Indian Reservation. This picture is from one of the Round Up parades. The Umatilla, Cayuse and Walla Walla tribes (along with several other tribes from all over the US) come to the Round Up and participate in various activities. They all dress in their traditional attire and ride in the parades. Several of them have pieces that have been passed down through the generations for over a hundred years. I like to watch their dance competitions as well.

 This is our county's memorial for those from Umatilla County that made the ultimate sacrifice. There is a different stone for each war.

Week 19 - Michelle

I had a much easier time this week, too, although I missed Leaf.  There is not a lot of color change in Austin and I couldn't find any leaf that excited me.  I hope you enjoy the other pictures, though.

Week 20 The list!!

 

 

 

This week I have two new concepts to keep in mind while out shooting the list.

 

First is very fitting for this time of year..

#1 Clouds are your friends

Very self explanatory I think....Clouds bring dimension to a photo shows the vastness of the sky and really creates a sort of mood to a photo when added.  

 

#2 Balancing Elements

 

This concept took me a while to retain as a part of my natural shooting habits.

When looking at a photo you naturally look at the main subject. To make that photo more interesting and a little more exciting for the viewer its nice to have a point, counter point balance. I think examples tell it better than I can explain it.

The counterpoint does not have to be a person or a thing. It could be the sun in the background and something in the foreground. Anything to pull the eye into another direction. Anyways, if you have any questions please ask. HAVE FUN!!
