Week Twelve - Amy

Well, I'm a little late getting my pictures out this week. I lost my camera for a couple of days, but I have found it now. Of course I didn't look in the designated place for the camera because that was not where I had left it. Apparently my dear husband was cleaning up after me and put it away. So here they are...

Monday - The Hunt for Red October

This is our largest watermelon in the garden. One of our lovely dogs decided that she wanted to get at the sweet, red center of the fruit. Amazingly, the way in which she chewed it created a heart shape. We took it inside and cut it up, hoping to salvage it. It was not quite ripe yet, but the kids still think it tastes great.

Tuesday - A Clockwork Orange

These are our dogs Roxy and Charlie. Roxy loves that orange football and brings it to us to play with every evening, like clockwork. She's very entertaining.

Wednesday - Golden Eye

This is just a picture of my eye. Shane took it for me. You can see the reflection of the camera lens in the pupil. It's amazing to me how golden my eye actually looks. I always thought my eyes were quite a dark brown.

Thursday - Fried Green Tomatoes

Well, they're not fried, but these are some of the green tomatoes in my garden. I love how the little hairs on the vines look like they are glowing.

Friday - The Blues Brothers

The brothers, Kieric and Dagny doing Zumba Fitness with the Wii. This is Dag's favorite game and he will play it until he drops. When Shane found out from Grandma Caroline that Dagny and Tirion fall asleep after playing this game because it wears them out, he ran right out that night and bought it.

Saturday - The Color Purple

This is Shane's purple cup. He uses it daily. He likes it because it is the largest cup in the house and he doesn't have to refill it as often. It is a 32 ouncer.

Sunday - Single White Female

What says female more than a bra and jewelry? And it's all white to boot.

so I apologize for all of the baby pictures..
I spent lots of one on one time with Adalyn this week!

I have been loving the cooler temperatures here lately,
I was laying in our yard with Adalyn.. here was our view!

She's the the only single white female that I've been around lately,
and here she is thoroughly enjoying her swing!

Week 12 - Melissa

The Hunt for Red October

Well, vacation is over this week and it is back to work reality. I forgot how time management is such a big part of my every day life.

I am so glad Ashli "recycled" a photo because this one I took last week and played in perfectly for me.  There isn't too much color change up here quite yet and you have to "hunt" for it.  We'll give it a week or two and there will be MUCH more to choose from.

Clockwork Orange

This week was my baby's 5th birthday.  All summer he has been saying he wanted an Annoying Orange cake for his party.  Although we tried and tried to convince him of ANYTHING else, this is the cake I came up with.  It is a four layer cake with orange curd filling and orange buttercream frosting.  I made a cupcake and cut the top off for Annoying Orange and borrowed Mr. Potato Head pieces to represent their faces.  I took the liberty of a new character "Cake" for the occasion.

If your kids have never seen Annoying Orange, count your blessings and avoid.  He lives up to his name.  (If you are really that curious, look on Nick or YouTube.)

 Fried Green Tomatoes

(Sigh) My tomatoes are being stolen/eaten by some creature so I have decided to take them off the vine while green and ripen them on my herb drying screen.

Goldeneye

Black-eyed Susans from my mother in-law's garden.

The Color Purple

I just can't seem to go a week without a sunset picture.  I was actually looking for the color orange when I took this but this sky with all the colors fading to the purple night sky is one of my new favorites.

 Single White Female

I found this pretty lady while the kids and I were out for a drive.  I had to turn around after passing her when the lightbulb came on!  She was hanging out with her friends but was off to the side a bit which made for the perfect opportunity to "single" her out.

Week 12 - Aisha

WEEK 12

Week 12 was a hard one for me. I know we can use colors but it still was difficult seeing I really wanted to try to use the movie titles as well. I ended with using only the colors. Anyways, here are some that I did capture.

The color PURPLE (see photo above)

Here we are at my parents in Boyne. While I was there I snapped a nice photo of the grapes in the arbor. While my boys were there this weekend they used the arbor as their very own fort.

GOLDEN EYE (see photo above)

I was at the vineyard the other day for a meeting and I saw this field of sunflowers standing only a foot high. They were beautiful!! I asked and they said that the seeds were put in late,  which accounts for the height of the flowers.

Single white female (see photo above)

This is one of my beautiful  2013 Seniors.

Blues Brothers (see photo above)

Here are my two boys. Brothers to the end!! They are peeking out of their grape arbor fort and Grandma and Papa's.

Fried Green Tomatoes (see photo above)

This is my interpretation, its round like a tomato and its green. Yes, its my 3 year olds eye. I could of taken a photo of a green tomato but I will cherish this more as the years go on.

Week Twelve - Ashli

I know I was the one who came up with the list for this week, but it was much harder than I thought!  I'm afraid I didn't get too many of the Movie themes in there. Mostly just the colors. I did have a chance to get together with Aisha this weekend and get some great photography tips about how to shoot in manual mode.  So, be on the lookout for better pictures in the future!

The Hunt for Red October:

I did not get a new photo for this one, but an older photo of mine kept popping into my head for this topic, so I'm posting it anyway. I hope no one is annoyed that I'm recycling here.

A Clockwork Orange:
This is the clock at Clara's on the River - a restaurant that used to be the train station in Battle Creek.  Snapped it on our way into the library with the boys.

GoldenEye:
The sun rising over Bass Lake in Pentwater, MI.  I got up super early and walked down to the beach to capture this.  There were a lot of good ones but I chose this one.  I love how you can see the mist, and the weeds poking through the water in the foreground.

Fried Green Tomatoes:
This is an enormous Oak tree near our campsite.  It was truly majestic.

The Blues Brothers:
Brotherly love, with Lake Michigan as a backdrop!

The boys goofing off on the beach at Charles Mears State Park in Pentwater

Single White Female:
If you haven't noticed, I love taking photos of texture.  This is a mattress topper we ordered for our camper.

Week 12 - Michelle

August 20, 2012

This is my first blog post and I appreciate Ashli and fellow bloggers for allowing me to contribute!  I really enjoyed my first week snapping pictures.  This week's theme was  a good place for me to start since I could simply stick with the colors around me.  I hope you all enjoy.

The Hunt for Red October

(Or in this case, the hunt for red Sriracha).  This week I helped my Mother-in-Law move into her new home.  I organized her kitchen and had to snap a pic of her stash of what I call Vietnamese Ketchup.

Clockwork Orange

Presenting the University of Texas Tower.  I can see this from the boy's bedroom window, but I had to take a little drive to get a good closeup.  It will be lit up bright orange when the Longhorns win a game.

Goldeneye

I made an Icebox Lemon Pie this week that was really yummy!

Fried Green Tomatoes

I had this nice closeup of an Agave ready to use, but on my walk with my mom yesterday I had to snap a picture of this behemoth!

Blue

We had a great time swimming in Lake Charlevoix last week, but now we are back to swimming in the pool. It's slightly refreshing for the 100 degrees . . .

The Color Purple

All of the purple veges I received in my CSA box this week.

Single White Female

Ok, so this is lame, but I truly am the lone white girl in my family.  Ha!

Week 13- the list

THE LIST

This week I thought I would include a couple of photography concepts. So what I'm going to do is give you two concepts with their definition and a couple of examples.
I will be giving you the usual list of seven and what I'm hoping, is while taking those photos this week, you will stop and try to use the concepts in your photograph. Using both would be great but if you want to focus on one more than the other that would work too. I thought I would give you all a little bit of a challenge in hopes to enhance your love for photography. Each time its my turn I will give two more concepts for us to work on. Let me know what you think.

This weeks concepts

#1 Rule of thirds
If you have guidelines on your camera then you can use them. If not, just imagine them. The guidelines make up a kind of tic tac toe board of 9 equal parts. Two vertical lines and two horizontal lines. When taking a photo you want to keep your focus not dead center but in a third of the photograph. Example is a horizon line. (like the sunset photo below) You can keep the horizon line in the upper third of the photo, keeping two thirds of the photo land and one third sky, or vice versa. The way I remember this is to find your focus and put it a little off center. Up, down, left or right.  For some reason I'm having a hard time putting this into words, I hope you understand. Here are some examples.

You can see in the first photo,  that the focus of  the guy with his wine is in the bottom third of the photo and the horizon is in the upper third of the photo.
The second photo (Christmas bulb) is not dead center in the photo. I off centered it just a bit, it is a simple rule but a basic and effective rule to live by. The third photo is one of my son, Ben on top of the mountain. He is the king of the mountain and because I used the rule of thirds you can see the how big the hill is and it gives him a look of tremendous conquor. If I would have just focused on him, dead center,  you wouldn't have such an impact while looking at his victory of getting to the top.
The last photo well, I think you get it! I did need to straighten my horizon in the background but other than that I LOVE this photo!

#2 Leading lines

Leading lines is a fun concept and you will find it very easy and extremely effective when getting your viewers to look at YOUR focus. Photography is an art and most people say its all in your perspective.  And that may be true, Everyone might have their own perspective when viewing.  On the other hand, as a photographer my job is to get my viewers to see MY perspective. I want viewers to look where I want them to look. Leading lines help me do just that. Leading lines pull us into the photo and lead us to the focus. We naturally follow lines with our eyes. Its up to us to place them where you want your viewer to look and to follow. Here are some examples I have.

In this photo of the church, I am using leading lines on the building its self. You see the triangle below the window pointing up to the cross and the pointing cones as well. This entire photo is pointing my eyes and my focus to go up. Not only the lines but the angle at which I shot this. Ultimately your eyes should stop at the very top of the building. The rule of thirds work nicely here as well. My building is in the center of the photo but the focus is in the rule of thirds. (the steeple)

The leading lines in this photo could bring a little mystery to the photo. Maybe your wondering what is on the other side of this hill. Your eyes go directly from the foreground to the top of the other side.
Well, if you have any questions please ask them. I am very excited to see what we all come up with. Here is the list for week 13
1. Morning time
2. Shopping
3. School supplies
4. Outside
5. End of summer
6. hair do
7. Attitude
